Compressing air creates water. There’s no way to avoid that – it’s a simple fact of science. The act of air compression creates heat, and as that heated air condenses it leaves water droplets in your compressed air system.
But water in the system – whilst unavoidable – isn’t desirable. At the air tool end of the system, water and water vapour can be spat out with the compressed air – potentially contaminating or damaging the product being manufactured.
Elsewhere in the system, moisture can increase compressor motor wear. And even when the water is confined to the air receiver, it will in time cause rust. So whilst you can’t eliminate the creation of water in your Doncaster air compressor, you must do something about the water once it’s there.
That’s where our dryers come in.
Refrigerant or desiccant dryer?
Add a refrigerant or desiccant dryer to your Doncaster compressed air system and you reduce moisture damage by removing it from the system. That means less product rework, less contamination, less maintenance and fewer breakdowns.
We use two types of dryers to achieve the same results:
• Refrigerant dryers remove moisture by cooling the warm air so that it condenses at the dryer – not elsewhere in the system. The dew droplets then simply drain away
• Desiccant dryers use ultra-absorbent materials to ‘scrub’ the moisture from the air to -70°C dewpoint
Both systems are effective, but some applications are better suited to one type of dryer.
