It’s often the case that problems with air flow aren’t the fault of the air compressor. Ductwork is a vital yet often overlooked part of the system. Too narrow a duct, too many tight angles or too many junctions can restrict air flow, creating pinch points that affect the performance of the air tool.
The same principle applies to all ductwork, whether it is supporting an air compressor or an extraction system. So when one of our regular clients contacted us about problems with the extractor unit that removed dust from their circular saw, we were only too happy to help.
Once onsite, our engineers’ inspection revealed the problem was not with the extraction fan, but with the ductwork. The volume of suction was simply too great for the existing duct to cope with, and dust extraction levels had dipped as a result.
We agreed to upgrade the ductwork and installed test points that would monitor suction levels in the future to prevent the same problem arising again. We also agreed the location of, and installed, inspection hatches in the ductwork of a nearby CNC machine.
The ‘go to’ air people
We are proud of the fact that we are the ‘go to’ supplier for all things air related for this client, and as ever we completed the work to the agreed time scales, to the customer’s satisfaction and in compliance with the appropriate standards, which in this case were the Pressure Safety Systems Regulations 2011 including a written scheme of examination, testing of the air receiver; servicing & maintenance of their air compressors and associated equipment.
On completion of the work, David Smith, General Manager Purchasing, had this to say about us:
“We have developed a professional working relationship with Algar Air due their high standards and great workmanship. You need to be able to trust your suppliers to do what they say they will, and this has always been delivered by everyone at Algar Air. They are our go-to supplier and have consistently delivered both on cost and quality. All the staff are friendly and approachable and clearly at the top of their game. I look forward to enhancing the relationship in the future.”
