Why’s the air compressor making that noise? Try these troubleshooting tips.
Air compressors generate noise. But sometimes, you can’t help noticing yours is a bit louder than usual. There are several possible explanations for why your Nottingham air compressor may be unusually loud, but try these tips before you arrange a repair.
Try moving your air compressor
We attended a callout for an air compressor in Nottingham recently only to find that the reason it was so noisy was that it was sat on the workshop floor, right on top of an access hatch. There was nothing wrong with the compressor itself – but noise was echoing and the hatch was vibrating.
Smaller air compressors are often placed on worktops that vibrate, or in enclosed spaces that echo the noise into the workspace. Additionally, confined spaces force every air compressor in Nottingham to work harder (they really need to work in clean air), and the increased strain on the motor can increase noise.
Try moving the air compressor in your Nottingham business and see if that makes a difference.
Loose housings, filters or pressure release valves can all cause additional knocking and rattling sounds that make your air compressor louder. Check to ensure that each is secure and unbroken.
The pump gasket
All air compressors in Nottingham contain a pump gasket, which separates high and low pressure air. As gaskets age, they can start to crack and crumble and the air can combine in the pump increasing air compressor noise.
You can replace the gasket yourself, but if you haven’t the know-how or time we can help.
