What difference can a contaminated environment really make to your air compressor?
Servicing Sheffield’s Natural Granite Limited
If you spend much time on this site, you’ll come across the word ‘contaminants’. By contaminants, we mean the airborne dust and dirt that can play havoc with your air compressor’s efficiency and reliability.
An air compressor can’t force out air at pressure unless it has first sucked air in. The dirtier the air it takes in, the harder the compressor’s filters have to work to collect the particles so they can’t contaminate the air that reaches your air tools.
Servicing Natural Granite
A great example of needing your air compressor to operate in a highly contaminated environment is Natural Granite. It’s one of the biggest stone fabricating workshops in Yorkshire and a specialist in cutting and shaping granite, quartz and other materials to provide the perfect worktops for its customers in Sheffield and beyond.
As you might imagine, cutting stone creates a lot of airborne dust, and lots of it finds its way to the filters of Natural Granite’s 15 kilowatt Hertz air compressor.
In this image, you can see the before and after of air compressor servicing.
The blackened filter on the right is what happens to a pristine filter (like the one on the left) after just six months, so regular servicing is vital.
Why is regular servicing so important?
The real issue with a highly contaminated airflow is that as the filter becomes clogged so the air compressor motor needs to work harder to force air through. That increases energy costs and, over time, it can increase the risk of breakdown and reduce the overall lifetime of your compressor motor.
Regularly replacing filters, therefore, helps protect the longevity of your compressor, but also helps regulate your energy bills.
Will your compressor need the same servicing?
Not necessarily. Our servicing contracts are based on operating hours and tailored to the specifics of each of our clients. In a cleaner environment, with a compressor that is used only intermittently, you may not need the same frequency of service.
