An air compressor needs regular servicing. That’s why lots of our customers have servicing contracts. They’re based on operating hours and environment. The more work your compressor gets through and the dustier or dirtier the atmosphere, the more frequent the service will need to be.
But here’s the thing: sometimes, even clients who have service contracts with us let the appointment slip. We get it. Every business is busy. There’s never a good time for the compressor to be out of action, even if it’s only briefly. Besides, you might think, everything seems to be running fine at the moment.
So take a look at this. Two pairs of filters. In each shot, there’s the new filter we’ve just added. And there’s the old, crusty, clogged filter we’ve replaced. See if you can spot which is which(!).
Why servicing needs to happen at the right time
These filters were in an air compressor used in a garage. We’d arranged to carry out the service almost a year ago, but things slipped. There was never a good time for the customer, so the service got pushed back and pushed back.
Yet these filters needed replacing a year ago. In the year since, they’ve become even more clogged. That has meant the compressor motor has had to work increasingly hard just to push air through the system. It has cost more to run. The chances are that the delay has shortened the life of the compressor.
And although it hasn’t happened (fortunately), the risk of breakdown massively increased. If it had occurred, the downtime would have been much greater than with a service. And unlike a service, you don’t get advance notice that lets you plan ahead.
